ACTUALIZACIÓN DEL ALTO EL FUEGO ENTRE ISRAEL Y GAZA | 15 de octubre de 2025
ISRAEL–GAZA CEASEFIRE UPDATE | October 15, 2025
The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas remains under significant strain as disputes over the return of hostage remains and the flow of humanitarian aid threaten to unravel the fragile agreement.
Hostage Dispute
Hamas handed over four bodies of hostages to Israeli authorities as part of the ceasefire terms. However, Israeli military officials confirmed that one of the bodies was misidentified and not among the hostages taken during the conflict.
The misidentification reignited tension between the two sides, with Israeli officials accusing Hamas of bad faith and warning that continued noncompliance could lead to a review of the ceasefire. The truce, which began on October 10, has so far prevented a return to major fighting but remains on edge.
Aid Deliveries Resume
After a temporary suspension, Israel reopened the Kerem Shalom and Rafah crossings, allowing roughly 400 trucks loaded with food, fuel, and medical supplies to enter Gaza. The halt in aid came after Israel accused Hamas of delaying the return of hostage remains.
Under pressure from the United Nations, Egypt, and Qatar, Israel reversed its decision to restrict aid. Despite the resumption of shipments, humanitarian agencies report that Gaza’s infrastructure is near collapse. Hospitals remain overcrowded and under-resourced, with power outages and severe shortages of clean water and essential medical supplies.
Release of Medical Personnel
As part of the humanitarian measures linked to the truce, Israel released dozens of Gaza medical workers detained earlier in the year. The released group includes doctors, nurses, and paramedics, but more than 100 remain in Israeli custody, including Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital.
Former detainees reported harsh conditions and mistreatment during their imprisonment. Human rights organizations have urged Israel to release all remaining medical personnel held without charge.
A Fragile Truce
Both Israel and Hamas accuse each other of violating the ceasefire terms. Israel claims that Hamas continues to operate armed units and refuses to disarm as required, while Hamas alleges repeated Israeli drone incursions into Gaza’s airspace.
Hamas has tightened its control within Gaza, conducting internal arrests and investigations against suspected collaborators. Analysts note that this internal crackdown may further destabilize the already fragile peace.
U.S. and International Response
U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated his call for Hamas to disarm, warning that failure to comply could result in what he described as “swift and decisive action.” The United States, along with Egypt and Qatar, continues to mediate efforts aimed at turning the temporary ceasefire into a lasting peace agreement.
Despite diplomatic engagement, the situation remains tense. Observers caution that a single violation or misstep could reignite violence and undo one of the most delicate truce efforts in the region in recent years.
